Submental fat, which leads to the appearance of a double chin, is often the result of hereditary factors. During your consultation at the Center for Aesthetics, our board-certified physicians will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan involving in-office or surgical procedures.
COOLSCULPTING offers a very simple, non-invasive and effective way to reduce submental (chin) fat without any downtime. COOLSCULPTING uses cryolipolysis technology to freeze and destroy fat cells permanently. In-office treatments take about an hour, require no sedation and only one to two sessions are typically necessary. Results from each session typically develop over about 3 months. COOLSCULPTING is a good choice for patients with submental fat and minimal skin laxity.
THERMITIGHT or ULTHERAPY treatments may be recommended in conjunction with or instead of COOLSCULPTING for patients with significant tissue laxity.
ULTHERAPY uses ultrasound energy to visualize the collagen layers of your face before applying microscopic thermal injuries to that tissue. A full treatment of the lower face typically takes about 45 minutes, and collagen fiber contracture will take effect immediately. The astute patient may notice the feeling of skin tightening and subtle lifting immediately following their session. Complete results usually appear gradually over the course of about six months as your body creates new collagen fiber. ULTHERAPY is an in office treatment which does not require sedation or other oral medications. There is usually no downtime, although bruising can occur. Your Center for Aesthetics board-certified medical provider will make recommendations for future treatments based on your age and starting condition. ULTHERAPY does not remove fat and so is combined with COOLSCULPTING when both skin laxity and submental fat are present.
THERMITIGHT may be recommended for patients with significant tissue laxity of the lower face, jawline or neck. THERMITIGHT is usually a one-time procedure for patients who have marked aging in the neck and lower face and are willing to have some downtime, but do not want a surgical facelift. THERMITIGHT uses radiofrequency energy and a cannula inserted underneath the skin to directly heat dermal tissue, stimulating collagen production. THERMITIGHT is an in-office procedure performed under local anesthetic, and some downtime may resullt from the one to two weeks of facial swelling and possible bruising. THERMITIGHT can be used to destroy fat cells in the submental region, but works best when combined with COOLSCULPTING for patients with significant amounts of submental fat. Fat cells which are destroyed by THERMITIGHT will initially feel firm, and may be visible as a lump underneath the chin for up to two months following the procedure. Results are often apparent within 4 weeks and continue to progress over about six months following the treatment.
